Love to Live Life: Defining Love

Really, what is love? A debatable topic, huh?

Will there ever be a universal definition of Love?

I say No. All of us will have a different definition of love, different levels of understanding it, different ways of showing it and different ways of letting it go. Primarily because we have our own experiences and stories about it (love). For me, what is certain at this point is that everybody is capable of loving and is deserving to be loved.

Love for God, for one's self, for family, for friends, for boyfriends/girlfriends, for materials things and just for everything. The later line made realize that in every relationship, the presence of love is inevitable, that we are born to love. Just imagine a life full of hatred and none of love. Chaos. But before any discussion arises, let me try (at least try) to define love in my own point of view:

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. - Corinthians 13:4" This line might already be a cliche for most of us but I firmly agree with that verse in the bible. And if I may add, genuine  love is unconditional. Perfect example is our Lord. As human beings and sinners, we continuously hurt our Creator, we tend to always forget Him but He forgives and welcomes us every time.Yes, we are not God, we are just human beings but let us make Him our role model as we love.

Loving unconditionally? Well, some may define this as being stupid or being a martyr. Maybe the better term is sacrifice. Sacrifice of one's ego and desires. Ideally, love should be a two-way relationship, it should be reciprocal. But unconditional love says that when you love another person, you don't expect anything in return. Plainly, you just love, continue to love and eventually, love will bounce back, maybe not from that person but from another. In a relationship where love is present, humility should over power the sin of pride. Why would you waste hours and days trying to win in a fight when in love, both of you must together win or together lose.

You know  it's love when you sacrifice the things that you want thinking that you'll lose a bit but in the end you see yourself more than grateful knowing that your sacrifice made that person you love happy.

After all, Love does not always bring happiness. Sometimes, it crashes you down. Giving up maybe a choice and letting go maybe the perfect way to show how much you love. It is a continuous experiential learning process. I may have defined love this way at this point of my life but no one knows how I'll define it tomorrow and the days that will follow.

Love is everywhere and even if sometimes you feel you're alone, just look around, there will always be that one person who will love you. Even if you think that world has turn its back on you, look up! You'll see that God loves you more than any human being can do.

Do not be afraid to love and be hurt. Cause once you stop loving, you stop living :)
